Welcome to the Golden Minor Hockey Web Site:
April/2009
In September 2008, hockey season began with great anticipation and excitement. New teams, new coaches, new friends and new experiences. Our association in Golden has 85 registered to play hockey from the A/B initiation level 5 to 6 years old to Midget level 15 to 17 years old. Over the course of the hockey season skills are developed in practice, efforts are put forth in games and bonds are made with teammates. A hockey season should not solely be judged on wins and losses. The overall experience is the key. Our success on the ice clearly demonstrates that the future of hockey in Golden remains strong.
Without the dedication of our certified volunteer coaches, none of this would be possible. It takes a tremendous amount of effort to instruct and inspire a team of young athletes. To all the men and women who stepped forward to coach our teams this year who lead busy lives away from the rink. Taking the time to give what they give on the ice is something worthy of respect. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your great work this year.
Team managers, hockey moms and dads who step up to the plate during the course of a season is also something that deserves a lot of credit. The passion off the ice by volunteer parents organizing tournaments, gathering jerseys, working at the concession and cheering in the stands is the overall key to success. To all the volunteers that attended Food Safe in order to man the concession that was a requirement this year. Thank you.
To our on ice certified officials. I would like to thank you all for your dedication in officiating all the league, tournaments and upcoming playoff games in Golden.
Our business community is also worth mentioning. We have had tremendous support throughout the years from our business community for tournaments, sponsorship and special events.
At the board level we had plenty of challenges and we implemented a lot of new changes this year. This was my first year as president. I came into the position unsure of what to expect. I must say it was a truly a pleasure working with the group of volunteer board members we have. It's most often a thankless job, but time and time again I saw this group focus on the task at hand and help ensure that what happens behind the scenes enhances the experiences our kids had on the ice. A sincere thank you to all board members.
Finally to the players. It gives coaches, parents and grandparents, no greater pleasure than to watch a kid hustle on the ice and succeed. Whether you realize it or not, all of you have become better players since the season began in September. Your efforts on the ice and your positive attitude off the ice is something Golden Minor Hockey is proud of. Good luck to all teams in remaining league play, tournaments and playoff games.
